Orthodox icon of Saints Andronikos, Andronicus and Athanasia

Commemorated: September 10th

The saints Andronikos and Athanasia, his wife, lived in the year 540 AD and were virtuous spouses, who came from Antioch in Syria. They were wealthy and lived according to God's will. Andronikos was a silversmith in Antioch and had two children from this marriage, who unfortunately died. This saddened the parents greatly and, in order to find comfort, they went on a pilgrimage to the Holy Land. From there they went to Egypt, where they decided together to become monks and entered a monastery. Andronikos went to the Monastery of Abba Daniel, and his wife Athanasia went to the women's monastery of the Tabenesiotes. There, after spending the rest of their lives in asceticism, they died peacefully.
