This Orthodox Icon is made by iconographer Demetrios Chraniotis (Greece). (This icon is an original copy). The Great Hierarch is the depiction of Jesus Christ in the pontifical vestments. In Orthodox iconography, the Great Hierarch recreates symbolic naming of Jesus Christ, based on the Old Testament prophecy: " You are a priest forever after the order of Melchizedek" (Ps.109: 4), commented by the Apostle Paul as follows " being designated by God a high priest after the order of Melchizedek" (Hebrews 5: 10).
