Archangel Uriel, whose name means "Flame of God" or "God is my Light," is a prominent figure in apocryphal  texts, though not mentioned in canonical scripture. He is widely regarded as an angel of wisdom, light, and divine fire.

Role and significance

Across different traditions, Uriel is known for several key actions and responsibilities:

Guardian of Eden: Uriel is often identified as the cherub with the fiery sword who guards the entrance to the Garden of Eden after Adam and Eve's expulsion.

Divine messenger: In the apocryphal Book of Enoch, Uriel warns Noah about the impending flood. He also acts as a divine interpreter, answering the prophet Ezra's questions about God's will in the Book of Esdras.

Savior of John the Baptist: Christian apocryphal texts credit Uriel with rescuing John the Baptist from King Herod's order to massacre the innocents and reuniting him with his cousin Jesus.
